29 March 2005. LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell provide a utility for helping people find a lawyer that matches their legal concern. Consumers should fill out the form requesting information about their location and legal issue. You will receive a list of participating lawyers who practice in the relevant area of law. You then submit an e-mail request for help, and the lawyer chooses to respond, or not.
Lawyers pay an annual subscription fee to participate. While the service might help those building a new practice, lawyers should review the categories available. Make sure the one(s) you represent are present in the list and clearly defined. I imagine some consumers might not know how to categorize their legal problem. When I filled in the form, it forced me to select a category even though my legal concern (special education) was not represented.

FirmSeek helps those seeking legal and other services find a firm, and those wanting to expand their client base find clients. To find a law firm for your legal issue, first select "law" and then "find the right firm." The database, which works like an expert system, lets you search by type of litigation or transaction, industry, United States or other country, and other qualifiers. I recommend trying a broader search if your specific one fails to find a match.
The database returns information about the firm (also consulting, accounting, public relations, lobbying, and finance firms), and provides for requesting an RFI or RFP online. Registration is free for users of this database. Further, "firms that accept projects through Firmseek agree not to charge Firmseek users any premiums or fees beyond what they would normally charge."
